About Practice Support Services

Why we set it up
Running a GP practice is demanding, and practice managers often carry a great deal on their own. Inspections, policies, staffing, finances and systems all land on one desk, and there isn't always someone experienced to turn to.
Practice Support Services was set up in 2026 to change that. It offers practical, friendly help from people who have done the job: support to get ready for CQC inspections, locum practice management cover, project work, and a buddy system for new practice managers. We are also growing a network of trusted, experienced practice managers, so practices can draw on a wider range of skills as the business develops.
Meet our founder, Ella Thompson
Ella has more than 17 years' experience in practice management, most of it as the manager of a busy and high-performing 12,000 patient practice in Dudley.
Her experience includes:
- Taking the practice through two CQC inspections, with a Good rating in all areas each time, and offering CQC guidance and support to other local practices.
- Working directly with the Black Country ICB's Training Hub as part of its admin and reference group, and developing training for practices in partnership with the Training Hub.
- Delivering training for practice managers and practice teams.
- Presenting at practice manager conferences.
- Serving as Digital and Transformation Lead for Sedgley, Coseley and Gornal Primary Care Network.
Her areas of expertise are HR management, finance for practices and primary care networks, and compliance management.
How we work
We keep it practical. We don't just advise: we roll up our sleeves and support you. We work with you on what your practice actually needs, whether that's a quick policy review, a mock inspection, or a friendly voice at the end of the phone in your first months as a practice manager. Support is available on-site or remotely, depending on where you are.
